Instant-read thermometer

The only sure way to know meat is safely cooked.

What it is and why it matters

An instant-read thermometer has a probe you push into food to check its temperature within seconds. It's the reliable way to know chicken, pork and other meats have reached a safe temperature, and it tells you when bread and custards are done. It also keeps you from overcooking to be safe.
