Oils, broth, rice and pantry
The liquid from simmering beef and bones: deeper and darker than chicken broth, for stews, French onion soup and gravy.
Low-sodium cartons, or bouillon or base mixed with water, all work; taste before you add salt.
Unopened cartons and cans keep in the cupboard. Once opened, refrigerate it and use it within a few days, or freeze it in measured portions.
