Tool
Pastry brush
Egg washes and melted butter, evenly.
What it is and why it matters
A pastry brush spreads egg wash, melted butter and glazes in a thin, even layer. That gives breads and pies a shiny, golden top and keeps glazes from pooling. Silicone brushes are easy to wash; natural bristles hold more liquid.
