Spider strainer

Lifts fried food out of hot oil in one scoop and lets the oil drain.

What it is and why it matters

A spider strainer is a wide, shallow wire basket on a long handle. It lifts fried food, dumplings and blanched vegetables out of hot oil or water in one scoop and lets the liquid drain. It keeps your hand farther from the heat than a slotted spoon.
