How to measure brown sugar

  1. Granulated sugar: scoop or spoon, then level.
  2. Brown sugar: press it firmly into the cup.
  3. Powdered sugar: spoon it in loosely and level; sift after measuring if the recipe says so.
  4. Honey and syrups: a thin film of oil in the cup lets them slide out.
  5. For the same result every time, weigh it: put the bowl on the scale, press tare, then add brown sugar to the weight above.
